Consultancies

  1. You fill out their Contact Us form
  2. You pitch the sales/CEO guy on your idea
  3. They’ve heard something like this before
  4. You need help
  5. They will help you for money
  6. They engage their engineering team
  7. The engineering team is like: “we’ve got some tools to do that from the last project but also we are all scarred from how bad that project went”
  8. You review and sign legal paper work
  9. You and they “kicked-off” the project (usually a 🎉 is thrown in an email)
  10. Everyone feels good bro

But it’s so very difficult to align the incentives when working with consultancies. There is a lot of back and forth and money spent before any actual work is done. So much planning when really you just want a guy on call ready to answer questions, write code, and muddle through until you have an MVP.

They can’t do this though because they’ve got salaries to pay so they need engineers to be operating near max capacity.

Your plans change put they’ve already written the Project Specification which doesn’t include that thing you decided you want.

It falls apart. The engineers are scarred.

This is why people hire people I guess.
